Understanding the Kilimanjaro Routes

Mount Kilimanjaro Climbing

Kilimanjaro has several routes, each offering a unique experience. The most popular routes are Marangu, Machame, Lemosho, Rongai, and the Northern Circuit. The choice of Mount Kilimanjaro Routes can significantly impact the daily distances you’ll cover. Here’s a quick overview:

Marangu Route

The Marangu Trail is also known as the “Coca-Cola” Trail as it is the easiest and easiest way to reach the summit.

  • The Kilimanjaro Marangu Route is about 70 km long and takes five to six days. This is the only route where you stay overnight in the hut.
  • Going up and down the same path makes the path more crowded. That’s why we only offer it as a private Climb To Kilimanjaro.

Machame Route

The Machame Route is considered one of the most spectacular and challenging routes with steep ascents and descents. The route is approximately 62 kilometers long and takes 6-7 days.

Lemosho Route

The Lemosho Route is a longer and more remote route that begins on the western side of the mountain. This route is about 70 km long and takes seven to nine days.

Rongai Route

The Rongai Route approaches Kilimanjaro from the northeast. The views are stunning and it’s a peaceful trail. The route is approximately 65 kilometers long and takes 6-7 days.

Northern Circuit Route

Kilimanjaro Climbing Route

The Northern Loop is a new route to the summit of Kilimanjaro. This route offers great views and is also a great opportunity to get to know the surrounding area. The Northern circuit is also the longest Kilimanjaro Climbing Route on the mountain.

  • The distance is between 56 and 62 miles (90 and 100 km). This is the most remote route on Kilimanjaro and therefore also the quietest.
  • Depending on which route you choose, the distance you cover each day on Kilimanjaro may vary.
  • On average, hikers spend 6 to 8 hours hiking 10 to 15 km per day.
  • It is important to mention that Climbing Mt Kilimanjaro is a challenging and physically demanding task.
  • Adequate Training For Kilimanjaro, preparation and equipment are required.
  • Kilimanjaro Altitude Sickness is also a common problem as mountaineers climb to higher altitudes where the air is thinner and oxygen levels are lower.
